Ghawth, in collaboration with NORWAC and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, successfully completed its project to support the Turkish Emergency and Trauma Hospital in Sidon (November 2024 – May 2025).
The Project aims to:
1- Cover the salaries for 75 nurses for 6 months.
2- Provide the medical consumables, medication, and equipment as needed.
3- Support to the Hospital Management Team.
Key achievements : include significantly exceeding the target for medical staff support, covering salaries for 97 employees (4 doctors + 93 nurses), surpassing the initial goal of 75 staff by 129.33%. This supported workforce was predominantly male (63.92%) and Lebanese (69.1%), but also notably included Palestinian nurses (30.9%), enhancing their professional opportunities. In terms of patient services, the hospital provided care to 1,236 patients from November 2024 to May 2025, which, while below the 2,500 target due to the war’s conclusion, still represented substantial community support across diverse nationalities (Lebanese, Palestinian, Syrian, and others). The project also delivered medical supplies and equipment, though only 36.04% of the budget was utilized, as some funds were reallocated to cover salaries for four doctors and avoid duplication with other partners. Crucially, support was provided to the Hospital Management Team, including funding for doctors’ salaries, to aid in formulating a strategic plan for the hospital’s long-term continuity and address administrative, HR, and financial challanges.
Overall, the initiative greatly enhanced healthcare access, strengthened the health workforce, and supported vulnerable populations, serving as a valuable model for collaborative aid despite challenges in the hospital’s long-term sustainability planning.
