Assessment of the health situation in the Ghouta area of Damascus-2024

As part of Ghawth’s reaction to the humanitarian crisis that the Syrian people are facing, and in order to prepare suitable interventions to increase patients’ access to critical health care, Gawth analyzed the health situation in the Harasta area of Eastern Ghouta. In this regard, it went to Harasta National Hospital (a government hospital) in the second half of December 2024. The hospital has five floors and the following clinics: pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, urology, ophthalmology, cardiovascular disease, nephrology and dialysis department, orthopedics, ENT, and gastroenterology. The hospital also has three operating rooms, a pharmacy, a lab, and a radiology department.
Every month, the hospital delivers free care to over 5,000 patients, including 20 patients who receive free dialysis sessions in addition to more than 1,500 natural and caesarean deliverys per month.
The hospital is experiencing a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies in order to continue providing primary and secondary health care to over 5,000 patients per month and to work on increasing the number of beneficiaries, as this hospital is the only option for obtaining these services in the Harasta area and surrounding areas.
